I’m a writer, and one night I had a crazy dream: to do all the activities in The Dangerous Book for Boys with my two sons in a year. The Dangerous Book for Boys is a a bestselling manual written by two English brothers, Conn and Hal Iggulden, on what every boy should know as part of his youthful education. The activities in it include (and this is only a partial list) such things as building a tree house and go-cart, making a homemade battery, devising a bow and arrow and creating secret inks, playing Texas Hold ‘Em, stickball and chess, reading Shakespeare and poetry, identifying cloud formations, trees and constellations, tying knots, and on and on including, yes, even hunting and cooking a rabbit and tanning its hide. This, then, is the story of our quest….
My wife is Jennifer. My sons are Hank (11) and Gabe (8). My daughter Annie is away at college. They are all as much a part of this adventure as I am. By the way, I have an author’s website and blog, KevinNelsonWriter.com, if you’d like to learn more about me and my writing. I post all my entries about The Dangerous Quest there first, but archive them here so I can have a complete record. I started this in fun, and I”m now finding that I’m learning as much as my sons—about them, about parenting, about myself. I welcome you to share in this quest with us.
